A bit inquisitive younger me always wondered why a loving God who loves everyone regardless would create a system of reward? Why should I be rewarded or rejected for loving or not loving you? I imagined it as a man punishing a lady for not loving him back, gross right? I felt God’s love was ironical. All I wanted was to make heaven and not be condemned, making me sin conscious.
I always felt so condemned when I sin. On the verge of giving up on this God-life, I got answers.
Have you ever felt so condemned? Do you feel that heaven is for a set of people? Do you feel like you have no worth?
Heb. 2:5 AMP: For it was not to angels that God subjected the habitable world of the future, of which we are speaking.
Here is the truth, God when creating man took his time to create us. The man was the only one He made after his image; man was the only one He put his Spirit upon; we were the only ones he spent his time to be with after creation. This shows God’s overwhelming love for us. Through the Holy Spirit in us, he made us higher than angels. God with his innumerable company of angels chose to create man and give him his Spirit and gave man his promise and not angels. This indicates his love towards us, we are the only ones with his Spirit, and we are the only ones that can house God.
God sent his son Jesus Christ to us to usher in his grace. That is when we make decisions to believe he makes us look like him by giving us the seal of salvation which is the Holy Spirit. In reality, every believer has the Spirit of God living in him.
Accepting Jesus into our lives makes us his bride, just as a bride he adorns us with his grace.
Romans 5:2, By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
Like a man woos his admirer to gain her attention, God’s love is revealed to us in that he died for us while we are yet sinners. He does not hate you and never would he, he hates SIN and not the man. When we have faith, that is, when we believe in Christ then by faith we have access to his grace and have actual access to everything divine that we do not merit.
You have all become true children of God by faith in Jesus Christ! Faith immersed you into Christ, and now you are covered and clothed with his life. Galatians 3:26-27 TPT
The word born again means an actual rebirth but in God’s Spirit. And just as a baby has no offence, no wrongdoing; so do you. Being born again gives you a clean record, no record.
I felt guilty about things I did before I gave my life to Christ and some things I struggled with even after knowing the Lord. It first starts with making you feel less of God’s child because of your past. Sometimes I felt because of these things I won’t have full access to God, my prayers will not be heard.
John 3:17, For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
When you believe all your past is wiped off, God does not see you as a sinner anymore, he sees you as someone who is part of the big family. So the voice that makes you feel that you are less of a son is not God but the devil. Indeed the devil is a roaring lion who roars lies. Funny how with this knowledge many still feel condemned. Truth be told our mind helps to form us, if the report we keep on listening to is the report of our mind we will passively believe it. So whenever the devil roars a lie ROAR THE TRUTH BACK TO THOSE CONDEMNING WORDS UNTIL YOU BELIEVE IT AND SEE IT HAPPENS. Indeed Christ has died for us and receiving him is receiving the NEW MAN (JESUS). Having his Spirit makes us dead to sin and alive to the Spirit. Reassuring yourself of these words makes you believe the truth which is, that you are no longer slaves to sin but slaves to doing what is right.
“For if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things. Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God.And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight. And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.” 1 Jn. 3:20-23 KJV.
The second highlight says he that does not believe is condemned, some scripture will refer to the person as being dead. You condemn yourself for not believing. It means you do not have the spirit of life in you and are hence condemned. Fascinating how God still loves a man in that state but hates their sinful nature. It was this love that made him die for man while we were sinners. Condemnation only comes when we are not in Christ Jesus.
Romans 8:1 KJV, There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
We are not condemned if we are in Christ Jesus. A further explanation of what it means to be in Christ Jesus was stated; it is to walk after the spirit and not after the flesh. Most times I get questions on how to walk in the spirit, the second part of verse 5 of the above chapter explains it better it says “but those who are according to the Spirit and are controlled by the desires of the Spirit SET their minds on and SEEK those things which gratify the [Holy] Spirit.” Amplified. This is the Christ-like life and this is the life we accept when we believe.
The trick to mountain climbing or walking on a rope bridge is not looking down, it becomes so scary and people scared of height (I don’t like heights either) might want to retreat. Walking through life successfully as a Christian is by the Spirit. Things other than this may become appealing but putting your eyes on the goal takes you to your destination. The goal should be being like Christ, the love showered on us should be reciprocated back to our father and friend. Showing God love will make you want to do what he loves, makes you obey that small voice or that inner conviction in you.
It is normal for a father to guide, correct and reward his child. It’s a growth process, babies growing up will be guided and probably corrected when doing wrong, it’s showing love and concern. Now, our Father is a loving father and he corrects us as his children.
Revelation 3:19, As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
When you are corrected, God is not saying you are condemned, that’s not CONDEMNATION! If you are corrected it’s because what you did was wrong and it’s to stop a repeat from happening. It does not mean that you are not God’s son, from the above scripture it is those who are dear to his heart he rebukes.
Dear believer, you are not condemned you are God’s own, you are cherished and immensely loved by your father.
